Groomed and ready for the Fourth
July 2 2018--For weeks now, the Port staff have been getting ready for the Kingston Fourth of July. Lawns have been edged, watered, fertilized and mowed. Sidewalks and parking lots have been cleaned. Extra port-a-potties have been ordered. Now the park sits eerily empty, groomed and waiting for the bands and crowds and vendors.
Here's what contributor Shirley Sax has to say about the upcoming events as reported in the July edition of the Port of Kingston News:
Remember when [Independence Day] meant parades, fun, food and fireworks? It’s still that way in Kingston on July 3 and 4.
On July 3, Tiny Town, at the Village Green Community Park, will feature giant inflatables, face-painting, games, and food and craft vendors.
On Independence Day, work up an appetite with the annual Fourth of July Fun Run, which starts at 9 a.m. Then refuel with a family pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-11 a.m. at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club. After that, scout out your place along Main Street to watch the famous Fourth of July Parade, which starts at noon. There will be marchers, floats, area celebrities and the Kingston High School Band. Kids hungry? The Kingston Cove Yacht Club will serve free hot dogs to children from 1-3 p.m. The Big Ball race is at 1:30 p.m.. Tiny Town opens again at 10 a.m., with food and fun galore until 5 p.m.
