Two of the chainsaw carvings that used to grace George's Corner have returned. The 'Mermaid' and 'Levi the Fish' are on temporary display outside of Kingston Mercantile & Marine. When all nine have been restored, some of them may move to the grounds of the Old Kingston Hotel across from the Port's new park on Washington Boulevard.
The restoration is being done by Oregon artist Terry Tessmer who originally carved them over 30 years ago. Those who recall the dull, dingy figures of recent years, will be delighted with the bright, vibrant colors and restored features, said Tessmer.
